“Cities around the world are in lockdown, a citywide lockdown may become “the only option left” if various measures fail to prevent an explosive rise in the novel coronavirus in the capital.” Koike said during a news conference Monday.
“In Tokyo there is serious concern that clusters of infected individuals will lead to an explosive increase in the number of cases in the city. If that were to happen, we may have no choice but to impose strict isolation measures — a so-called lockdown — to prevent further spread.”
An additional 17 individuals were confirmed on Tuesday to have tested positive for the novel coronavirus, the largest number of cases the city has seen in a single day — breaking the record set just a day earlier.Koike warned that the next three weeks are critical, as Tokyo could see an “overshoot,” or an explosive increase in cases.
How do you assess the the probability of lockdown on Tokyo?
I believe the probability is very high. Tokyo will have lockdown in the near future.
Because Tokyo is testing rate is very low compared with other countries such as Korea.
Korea has been testing 10,000 people daily, Japan has been testing only 1000 daly.
Korea has been testing people who don’t have clear symptom, but lnoD7mQc Japan has been testing people with clear obvious symptom.
And among tested, mortality rate is higher in Japan than Korea.
This means because Japans testing so slow, it is not finding infected people at easier stage. This also means that more infected people will be found from now on. 17 new found infected people, the largest number in one day indicates the lack of enough testing in Tokyo.
That’s why I believe Tokyo will have high potential of outburst of infected people in the next few weeks, leading to total lock down of the city.
